Listening Pleasure: Greg Davis’ Midpoint

March 31st, 2010 § 1

For the last few days I have been getting an obligatory minimum of two spins of this wonderful little album. With just two tracks, Davis keeps it simple in weaving these magical drone-based tapestries. Davis defines the drone genre here. Slowly-morphing sound monuments—you enter the front door and things sound one way. By the time you exit the track, you are in a completely different realm, but where exactly did the scenery change? Was it a few minutes back? I don’t remember— perhaps this is because the music had me so hypnotized.

Poland CDR Reviewed on KEXP Blog, Foxy Digitalis

Thanks to Justin Spicer and Dave Miller for their kind reviews of that already distant-seeming culling of tracks from last year.

Read the Agitated Atmosphere review here and the Foxy Digitalis Review here.

And if you have time, swing by JS’s other stomping ground: Electronic Voice Phenomenon.

Also, although I am all out of this CDR, you can still obtain copies directly from Sturmundrugs, or otherwise in the USA from Discriminate Music or Tomentosa Records.

Where am I?
